WHAT IS FITMENT FACTOR?

The fitment factor is a formula used to determine employees’ salaries under the 8th Pay Commission. It adjusts the current salaries from the 7th Pay Commission to match the new pay scale proposed by the 8th Pay Commission.

In the 7th Pay Commission, the fitment factor was set at 2.57 times, leading to an average salary increase of about 14.29% in 2016. This made the minimum pay scale Rs 18,000.

WHEN WILL THE 8TH PAY COMMISSION BE SET UP?

The 8th Pay Commission is expected to be implemented from January 1, 2026, since it’s usually 10 years after the previous one.

The government usually waits 10 years between pay commissions. However, the government hasn’t said anything about setting up the next pay commission yet.

With the recent Lok Sabha elections over and Modi 3.0 in power, there is more talk about the formation of the 8th Pay Commission.
